AN EXPERIENCE WITH BARNES AND NOBLE'S NOOK PRODUCTS

You are now connected with REP from BN.com for an online chat.

Me: Hi, I just ordered my first book from Barnes and Noble. The directions on the order page provided the option" download". I chose that and paid for the item, but the item did not download to my computer as most online vendors have it do, but it instead downloaded to a spot on your computer which allows me to read the book, but cannot highlight, notate, etc. which should have been explained on the page that allows download. This is the problem, unless you can explain how I can get that item onto my computer at home so I can use it.

REP: Thank you for joining Barnes & Noble Digital Chat, my name is REP and I will be assisting you today. [2:11:05 AM]

Me: okay REP, I'm ready

REP: I understand that you're having an issue with the book that you have downloaded. I will be happy to help. [2:12:21 AM]

Me: Correction. the book did not download. I paid for an item that you have stored on your computer. I have to go to your website to get to read it. bs. I want the item downloaded to my computer, that's what download means. What you've done is "upkeep"!!

REP: I understand that its frustrating that you cannot download the book or have a soft copy of it. [2:15:02 AM]

REP: I can give you another option on how you can have a copy in your end. [2:15:21 AM]

Me: If I cannot download the book, why do you use the word download on your website?

Me: this is called bait and switch, false advertising, and misleading the consumer.

Me: check with your supervisor.

Me: skews me. I am interested in your other option. thanks for listening.

REP: We do apologize for the inconvenience that it brought you. [2:17:55 AM]

Me: I am calmer now. I await your option. an option with no strings?

REP: Please try to download NOOK for PC application to be able to download the local copy of the book in your computer. [2:18:31 AM]

REP: Are we still connected? I just do not want the session to time out. I will be staying on the line for another minute to wait for your response. [2:20:29 AM]

Me: sorry. I have a Mac. I looked all over your site for such an application. the only one available is for web use. Could you provide the website, the exact path, that would accomplish getting the book copy onto my computer via the web app for Mac. that would be very useful.

Me: I have been giving you more than a minute. How about trading the favor?

Me: Now that really looks useful. the payoff for you is that I am presently not intending to buy another book from Barnes & Noble, and will tell everybody I know not to, given my experience. If this web address really works you might neutralize me. best wishes for both of us. anything else you want to add?

REP: That's the best option I can give for now.. [2:24:23 AM]

Me: Are you still there/

REP: I do hope everything would went well. [2:24:31 AM]

Me: Have a nice day. I know you're doing your best. We all get caught in the teeth of these person-eating corporations. Keep the faith.

END OF CHAT.
